Birdwatching and bird photography

  Discover Extremadura op facebook
Birding in Extremadura is a special experience. As a birdwatcher you will have heard that Extremadura boasts a natural wealth of more than 350 species of birds. This is a region that is not only important for birds that nest in Spain, but also for wintering and migratory birds from Northern Europe. Indeed, much of Extremadura is actually protected as ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds, part of the Natura 2000 network). The zone of Las Villuercas, where also the Geopark Villuercas Ibores Jara is situated is an exceptional area as up to 70% is protected under Natura 2000.

More about excursions birding and bird photography

The optimum way of enjoying birdwatching is to take advantage of our guided daytrips or one of our Birdwatching Adventure packages. These packages combine a comfortable stay in a Casa Rural (Country hotel), with the guiding expertise of the multilingual guides of Discover Extremadura.
Our excursions are exclusive and private for you or your group. This means that we tailor the excursion programme according to your wishes, nor do we take other participants in order to make up a group. It means that we spend plenty of time for observation or for taking photographs. Comfortable transportation is provided by our SUV's - poor road conditions are no impediment.

We like to show you the best of Las Villuercas birdlife, Eagles, Vultures, Raptors, Rock Thrushes etc. Inside this area and environments we find all important habitats: steppes, wetlands like rivers, reservoirs and ricefields, furthermore dehesas with Holm oaks and Cork oaks.
Las Villuercas is a perfect starting point for going to some other natural spaces as there are La Serena, Arrocampo and of course the Monfragüe N.P.
