We at Discover Extremadura will help you to enjoy the nature and history of a unique, untouched and mostly unknown part of Spain, Extremadura and in particular the region around the Geopark Villuercas- Ibores- Jara.

The team of Discover Extremadura consists of Henk Zweers and Liesbeth van Vlie, and Rosco of course. We exchanged our lives in the Netherlands for a new life in Las Villuercas. We live nearby the small village of Berzocana surrounded by spectacular nature.

The variety of nature in the area is so overwhelming that we always discover something new. This is what makes Las Villuercas so exciting for us.

This feeling is shared by the  people who are working with us. They are excellent guides and thoroughly know the area. They also speak English.

Liesbeth and Henk

Paco and Emilia are providing excellent accommodation in their Casa Rural in Solana. With Paco we visit the caves with petroglyphs, abandoned mines and the first settlements. Alfredo and Susana have an apartment to rent in Aldeacentenera, they give birdwatching and botanical excursions. José Antonio and Marysé also give botanical excursions, but in the vicinity of Guadalupe. Alejandro from Aldeacentenera is the guide for the horse riding tours. Well known artist  Neil Allen, who lives in Salamanca, comes to Las Villuercas to arrange and lead the drawing and painting workshops.
On our own finca Máximo and María rent a comfortable and not expensive 4-6 persons bungalow.
We ourselves give birdwatching excursions and nature photography workshops. We also rent out shelters for close-up photography of vultures and other birds.
Liesbeth provides the total coordination of everything that Discover Extremadura offers.
Because we from Discover Extremadura live in the heart of Las Villuercas, there are short communication lines so we are able to find quick solutions for your wishes.

old settlement

Las Villuercas consists for the most part of mountainous areas with different types of eco systems and different micro climates. It has well conserved Mediterranean forests, the so-called Dehesas with Holm oaks and Cork oaks, mountain rivers and, as a consequence rich natural surroundings. Much history is to be found too, as there are prehistoric rock paintings, Roman and Moorish ruins and, for example, many abandoned mines of the 18th and 19th centuries. You can walk undisturbed for hours, observe birds and plants, paint, take photographs, or ride on horseback.
If you book an arrangement for several days, we arrange for you to stay in excellent Casas Rurales (Country Houses) and Country Hotels. During our excursions you are transported by our comfortable SUV's.

Our satisfaction will come from knowing that you will become as enthusiastic as we are about everything that Las Villuercas and Extremadura have to offer!

Do you like drawing and painting? Be inspired by the abundant nature, astonishing landscapes and picturesque villages in Las Villuercas. Check out our offers!
Bird photographer? Come photographing vultures, kites or cranes very close from one of our hides!
